Umbauraum

The institution Kunstverein offers spaces for trying out things unfamiliar, as it is open for experiments. Under the title »Umbauraum« (reconstruction room), an experiment of this sort will take place in the Bielefelder Kunstverein: »Umbauraum« is intended to be a project of communication and research at the same time. For the space of a week, the Kunstverein will deliberately interrupt the normal routine. The form and place of the presentation are, therefore, not determined by the need to accommodate budgetary parameters.
We are especially seeking suggestions for projects, which operate to one side of the usual presentation forms. The aim is to promote new models and matters of curatorial practice. Applications can come from individuals, groups, societies, which feel allegiance to an extended, cultural, academic or social field.
End of June 2009 a jury consisting of representatives from the region and beyond will assess the suggestions submitted.

Guidelines for submission
Deadline: Monday, June 1, 2009 (postmark).
The project proposal should include:
1. A short project description (max. 2000 characters)
2. A visualisation, script or other presentation of the project
3. A short biography of the project's authors and initiators
4. A contact of the project director, including mail address, telephone number and e-mail address
The project proposal can be sent either in English or German by mail or by e-mail (to: umbauraum(add)bielefelder-kunstverein.de) in the preferred format of a Word or a PDF file up to 2 MB. Additional materials cannot be taken into account.
To finance and realise the selected project, Bielefelder Kunstverein provides an available budget of 1.500 Euros for production, travel, etc. Additionally, the Kunstverein's own resources (e.g. technical equipment) are available. Where possible, the Kunstverein supports the project authors in finding additional funds. For the realisation of the project the personal presence of the project managers in Bielefeld should to be provided.
The Bielefelder Kunstverein cannot accept any responsibility for the documents submitted. The rejection of a proposal does not give the authors of the project any claim on the Bielefelder Kunstverein or any other persons acting on behalf of Bielefelder Kunstverein.
